Pence seeks to reassure European allies unnerved by Trump
The mission of the vice president's trip was clear: reinforce the U.S. commitment to the security of Europe and the historic transatlantic partnership. But though Pence stressed that he was speaking on behalf of the president, Trump offered very different views an ocean away in Florida.

Fox News's Chris Wallace warns viewers: Trump crossed the line

For decades, Monticello hid Jefferson's relationship with a slave. Now the estate is making room for Sally Hemings.
The Founding Father, who wrote in 1776 that "all men are created equal," was the master of a 5,000-acre working plantation. Over the course of his life, Thomas Jefferson owned 607 slaves. A $35 million restoration of the Charlottesville site will showcase their lives.

'We did not start this fight': In Trump era's dawn, scientists rally in Boston
The event, called the Rally to Stand Up for Science, was timed to coincide with the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, also occurring in downtown Boston.

FEC commissioner's departure sets up test of how Trump will approach money in politics
Democratic appointee Ann Ravel is leaving the deeply divided Federal Election Commission a few months before her term ends. But since the law requires at least four votes on the six-member commission to take action, there is little it can accomplish until Trump names her successor.

North Korean officials are planning to come to U.S. for talks, but preparations just got trickier
A recent missile test and an apparent assassination complicate efforts to start the dialogue after more than five years. The expected meetings with former U.S. officials point to Pyongyang seeing a potential opening with the Trump administration.

Even a Democratic congressman has to answer for Trump
A larger-than-normal crowd came out for an impromptu question-and-answer session Sunday morning with freshman New Jersey Rep. Josh Gottheimer, many of them expressing their concerns that he isn't doing enough to be an effective bulwark against the president.

'Excessive rainfall,' flooding threatens Central and Northern California
Coastal areas could see up to five inches of rain, while mountain areas could get up to 10. At higher elevations, several feet of snow might pile up. The storm raised the specter of a serious flooding event at a time when many reservoirs are already at capacity.
