McCain is in the fight of his political life in the age of Trump
Frequently critiquing his party's nominee, yet remaining on his side in the presidential race, has left the onetime GOP maverick in political jeopardy as he seeks reelection, his fifth, in tomorrow's Arizona primary.
FBI is investigating suspected foreign hacks of state election systems
Amid heightened concern over Russian hacks of Democratic Party organizations and possible meddling in the presidential election, the agency has warned states to be on the alert for potential breaches after two states suffered intrusions into their systems.

Trump's response to his doctor's shoddy letter? Call for Clinton to disclose more.
It's easy to laugh off his medical letter. But we still don't have a real, thoughtful evaluation of the Republican nominee's health, considering he's released far fewer medical records than Clinton has.

Gene Wilder, known for his nimble comic portrayals of neurotics, dies at 83
He was one of the most popular stars of the 1970s for his work with Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor. It was Wilder's idea to have the monster in "Young Frankenstein" tap-dance a duet to "Puttin' on the Ritz." He channeled his wide-ranging talents into roles in "Blazing Saddles," "Willy Wonka" and "Stir Crazy."

Anthony Weiner, Huma Abedin separating after latest sexting scandal
The former congressman broke the most important rule of political redemption: fully come clean. He recently deflected a question about whether his sexting days were behind him. And now we know why.

Lucy, our hominid cousin, may have died in a tragic fall from a tree
Scientists used a high-resolution X-ray to examine the bones of the 3.2 million-year-old Australopithecus afarensis and believe they found evidence she suffered a traumatic impact before she died, as if she were reaching out to break a fall.

Video shows mother cheering as her 4-year-old boy is thrown from a bridge
Witnesses said the child was terrified by the 27-foot plunge off a railroad bridge at a popular swimming spot on the Wynoochee River in Washington. Prosecutors are deciding whether to file charges.

A better economy and cheaper gas mean more traffic deaths
A more rosy economy has cast gloom over U.S. roadways, with thousands more people dying in car crashes in the past 18 months, according to new data.

'America's toughest sheriff' kept racially profiling Latinos. Now he faces criminal prosecution.
A federal judge ruled that Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio had intentionally ignored federal orders by continuing to profile Latinos at traffic stops and in "saturation patrols."

Eighty percent of Democrats polled think it's very or somewhat important to release the returns — and 82 percent think Donald Trump is hiding something because his filings aren't public. Republicans and independents are more mixed in their views.

The Fix: RNC head Reince Priebus is doing a better job than most people think
No chairman has the ability to end presidential campaigns if the candidates themselves don't want them to end.

Donald Trump's understanding of the nature of crime is upside down
Trump continues to make politically helpful arguments at the expense of truth.

Brazil’s suspended president makes impassioned speech to stay in office

‘Toxic environment’ for sons accused of campus sex offenses turns mothers into militants
Mothers band together to find help and support for themselves and others who feel their children are wrongly accused and lost in the college investigation and hearing process.

Britney Spears is a pop star permanently stuck in another era
Her new album, "Glory," and her performance at the VMAs were supposed to be her comeback. But, really, they're relics of the recent past.

A lightning strike kills 323 reindeer in Norway
The nation's environmental agency said it was the deadliest — and probably eeriest — strike ever recorded. "We've never seen anything like this on this scale," one official said.
