Pentagon to investigate Flynn's payments from foreign groups
The Pentagon office will try to determine whether retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn "failed to obtain required approval prior to receiving" the payments, according to an April 11 letter from the Defense Department inspector general to House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz.
Trump blames Democrats for government shutdown threats
Even as leaders in Congress neared a deal to keep the lights on past Friday, the president accused Democrats of threatening to close the government over a refusal to back spending increases for defense and border security.

Judge Madeline Haikala of the U.S. District Court in Birmingham issued a ruling charting a path forward for the separation but also called it "deplorable."
 
United passenger who was violently dragged off flight settles with airline for undisclosed amount
The agreement comes the same day that the airline released an internal investigation into the events that led to David Dao's forcible removal, admitting it had made multiple mistakes.
 
Two U.S. service members die battling Islamic State militants in eastern Afghanistan
The deaths took place in restive Nangahar province, where Islamic State is defending safe havens. It was the third time this year that a member of the U.S. military has died in combat in Afghanistan.
 
North Korea releases propaganda video showing simulated attack on White House
The video comes at a particularly tense time in relations between North Korea and the United States, with the Trump administration sending warships to the region in a show of force against Kim Jong Un's regime.
