Trump defends order amid upheaval
In a series of tweets, President Trump sought to play down the immigration order's effects, blaming "big problems at airports" on demonstrators and other factors. In what could be the first volley in an intense legal battle, Washington state's attorney general said he plans to file a federal lawsuit seeking an immediate halt to the order's implementation.

Democrats will attempt to rescind Trump's immigration order
Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer said Trump's executive order "was done in such a sloppy and careless way. ... It almost seems like back of the envelope."
 
Obama rejects comparison between Trump's immigration policy and his own
The former president also endorsed the protests taking place across the country in response to the new restrictions. "The president fundamentally disagrees with the notion of discriminating against individuals because of their faith or religion," an Obama spokesman said.
