Barcelona reels under coordinated assault that leaves at least 13 victims dead
The initial attack occurred on the city's iconic Las Ramblas promenade. Two men were arrested by authorities. Hours later police fatally shot five men in a car who were hitting pedestrians in the nearby seaside resort of Cambrils. The men were wearing what turned out to be fake explosive belts. Responsibility for the incidents, which mimicked events in Berlin, London, Stockholm and the French city of Nice over the past year, was claimed by the Islamic State.
