Stark reality of low expectations awaits the next president
With the end of an ugly contest between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump drawing near, voter frustrations underscore a stark reality confronting the winner: Much of the country will have very low expectations for what the next president might accomplish.
Can an anti-Trump surge of voters sway Texas?
Texas is still expected to go Republican this year, as it has in every presidential election since 1980. But Democrats have watched a turnout surge wash over the state's most urban, least white areas.

Fox News apologizes for falsely reporting that Clinton faces indictment
"It was a mistake," said Fox News anchor Bret Baier, who also retracted the report that the candidate was hacked by foreign spies.

The electoral map is definitely moving in Trump's direction
The last week has been a tough one for Hillary Clinton. As national polling tightens, we at The Fix are making three changes in our electoral-map ratings — all of which favor Trump.

Clinton holds narrow edge in Post-ABC News Tracking Poll
Donald Trump has a nine-point lead on addressing government corruption, but Hillary Clinton runs even or better on issues such as the economy and immigration.

Jury finds Rolling Stone magazine liable for defaming U-Va. dean with gang rape story
Jurors determined that Nicole Eramo was defamed in a now-discredited account of a campus gang rape published in 2014 by Rolling Stone magazine. Eramo is seeking $7.5 million, though jurors haven't yet considered monetary damages.

Does ‘Bridgegate’ closure spell the beginning of the end for N.J.’s Christie?
The governor wasn't on trial in the case involving an epic traffic jam that prosecutors called political revenge. But Chris Christie's legacy is definitely tarnished by association.

3 U.S. military trainers killed in gunfire by security units at Jordan base
A Jordanian military official said the trainers were fatally shot by security forces when their vehicle failed to stop at the gate of a military base.

2 NYC police sergeants shot in gunbattle with robbery suspect
The police department said the suspect was killed in the exchange of gunfire in the Bronx.
What time will this election finally be over?
We look at past presidential campaigns to see when definitive calls start being made on who won. (Hint: It's not going to be at 9 p.m.)

The Fix: Are voters more undecided now than they were four years ago?
Don't underestimate the effect of third-party candidates this year.

At Trump rally, former N.H. governor jokes about the Clintons’ sex life
"Do you think that Bill was referring to Hillary when he said: 'I did not have sex with that woman'?" former governor John H. Sununu said.

A teacher punched a second-grader in the face because she was ‘tired of him,’ police say
Surveillance footage from the Houston school shows the woman grabbing the boy's hand when he tried to move away from her, leading to a struggle as they continued down the hallway.

HBO cancels Bill Simmons’s show after just one season
The network said it was a mutual decision to halt production of "Any Given Wednesday"after just 17 episodes.

Synthetic opioid nicknamed ‘pink’ blamed for deaths of two 13-year-old Utah boys
"It's causing psychotic disorders like we've never seen before," one rehabilitation expert said.

Is a new D.C. restaurant worth $185 (before drinks, tax or tip)?
"Top Chef" finalist Kwame Onwuachi's long-awaited Shaw Bijou is ambitious. Food fanciers might not blink at the price tag, but the chef doesn't have a long track record. And the high-end concept could leave diners feeling like they just had extended hors d'oeuvres rather than a filling meal.

The psychological trick that makes it harder to pay off your credit cards
Too many Americans have a broken understanding of what the minimum payment on their credit card means and what purpose it serves.
